One of the key benefits to a mediation practice is a growing capacity to be present in the NOW moment. Life can be hectic with many areas competing for our attention. Developing the skill to remain present is important as it underlies many other abilities that can promote health and enjoyment of life.
We seem to have no problem accepting that we must develop skills for getting along in the outer world, but we don’t often realize or give equal weight to the necessity of evolving our inner technologies. It is hard to do so with the way our world is structured. That being the case it becomes a factor of choosing for ourselves —choosing self- care, choosing sanity, choosing self- direction over outer control.
Meditation and Learning to Live in the present moment offers many benefits:
Supports healthy change
Helps build new neural pathways
Erases or Reduces effects of stress
Positively affects aging, physically and mentally
Staying more focused on what is truly important
Being more connected to the experience of our lives
Enhances health, sleep and higher level problem solving
Remaining in charge of our energy so we do not become scattered or drained
Opening to higher level skills of creativity, intuition and self €“ knowledge
Helps to integrate positive shifts in consciousness so they become permanent rather than fleeting
Meditation puts us in touch with our deeper selves, opens space for discovering our personal truth, and pondering the larger questions of existence that can become lost in the noise of modern life.
There is so much research emerging now about the benefits of a meditation practice and the development of consciousness. This research is fascinating but more importantly it can serve as a motivation to carve out time in our days to really care for ourselves and learn to live in a richer more satisfying way.
